Situational Awareness (SA) is a critical foundation for good decision making in complex environments. It is normally referred to when discussing military strategy, emergency response or protection of human life.

It is just as important in enterprise sales.

The three key elements of situational awareness are:

- Perception of all elements in the environment
- Comprehension of the situation
- Projection of future status

Clearly these are highly relevant in efforts to manage account relationships with large and complex enterprises.

In SA terms, the most important element of any large account are the key stakeholders who will influence or make decisions regarding and product or service you are offering. To become situationally aware of key stakeholders we need "Stakeholder Intelligence."

Stakeholder Intelligence is simply:

1. Understanding who are the key stakeholders
2. What is their current situation
3. What outcomes are they driving toward
