PM/Implementation Manager to CSM transition

Hello everyone.  I joined this group late last week and have been reviewing.  I have many years of implementation experience and have taken a more active search for CSM roles.  I am blessed with making great connections over the years and having a support/long term approach to working with my clients.

I am curious to know if others have made similar transitions from roles to become CSM's.  
What were the challenges you faced?
What helped you overcome challenges?
What do you enjoy most now?

I am actively interviewing as well, so if you have any leads, I am based in NJ close to NYC and have years of remote experience.
